Doom 3 Timedemo

Bring out the console by hitting ctrl-alt-tilde
Type "Timedemo demo1.demo" (Without the quotes) Hit Enter. Run the benchmark twice as the second score is always better for some reason.

With all the OpenGL driver settings set to application preference, the rest is set to max except for no vertical sync. In the game, i use High Quality, 1280X1024 and everything on in the advanced settings and 4XAA.
In the games configfile, i use:
seta image_useCache =1
seta image_cacheMegs =128
seta image_cacheMinK =20480

With a barton 2400, x800XT (Cat 4.9) and 512 of ram i get 46 fps in the timedemo. The clocks i use are 10X236 and 11,2,2,2 timings. You guys with A64, what fps are you getting as i wanna see how cpu limited this system is.

Cheers!

IDK if the 9800pro 128 can hang with those settings. I'll give it a shot tonight anyways. :)

    1280x1024, High Quality, 4x AA, 9800 @ XT (412/730), Catalyst 4.7, my old P4 2.4C chip @ 2700 MHz (3200C is on loan to a friend while he does some benching for a review), 512 MB Corsair 3700 (2.5-3-3-6 @ 2.9V), FSB of 225, memory @ 450 & Mack's configfile settings:

    1st Run: 14.4 FPS
    2nd Run: 15.6 FPS

This game makes Northwood's cry for mommy!

Radeon 9700 Pro @ Stock, Barton 2500+ @ Stock, 1 GB of RAM, "Special Doom 3" Catalysts.

ATI Control Panel Slider set to full Quality

    1024x768 - Medium Quality

    seta image_useCache =1
    seta image_cacheMegs =256
    seta image_cacheMinK =20480

    19.0 FPS

This game kicked my cards ass. I can hear it crying in my computer. :bawling:

Below are some results after tweaking. Keep in mind, I won't play this way as it looks horrible.

    Radeon 9700 Pro @ 342/330.75, Barton 2500+ @ Stock, 1 GB of RAM, "Special Doom 3" Catalysts.

ATI Control Panel Slider set to full Performance

    1024x768 - Medium Quality

    seta image_useCache =1
    seta image_cacheMegs =256
    seta image_cacheMinK =20480

    42.2 FPS

//Edit: I forgot to mention that I have the slider in the ATI control panel set all the way to quality in the top results. I also added results after some quick tweaking

    Bios Flashed Radeon 9800 Pro 128 @ 396x337, Barton 3000+ @ stock (200fsb), 512 Mushkin PC3200. Cat 4.9s

Macks Settings(No- Vsynch, no 4x AA)
    27.3 FPS

To give you some idea if I turn on 2x AA at 1024x768 w/ vsynch I get 28.8 FPS.
    High 1024x768 w/ vsynch, no AA, 29.3
Ultra- 24.2 (Surprising, but my system can't handle the memory and is constantly loading things)

Right now I think I'm going to stay at-
Medium 1024x768 w/ Vsynch and 2xAA. I'll turn off AA when it can't handle it anymore (That brings it from 28 to 33, if I turn synch off too I'll go to 46).

There is no "demo" as of now. The demo we speak of is run inside the retail game by typing the above command in the console. It then runs the demo and calculates your average FPS. If you have the game just type-

    timedemo demo1.demo

in the console and that will run the timed demo. Depends on your computer but it can take about a minute.

27.3FPS on high quality at 1024x768

    Barton @ 2200 (200x11)
    Stock radeon 9800 pro
    1GB of PC3200
    4.7 catalysts
    vsync on (i think)

    very similar to pseudonym

    csimon,

That's some serious speed considering you have a 9800. You completely shure the settings is 1024x768 and not lower? I know the game automatically resets the resolution if you set it to something the game doesn't like. Happened to me once and i saw incredible fps all of a sudden. Only to find out that i was running at 640 and no AA. =/
I'm not doubting your fps at all, but could it be a combo with DX9c and the beta cats?

No no, I understand what it is. I used to record, play and edit demos in HL all the time. I just dont have that demo file.

Possibly Mackanz typoed "Timedemo demom1.demo"?? I just noticed that. Haha ... I'll try that when I get home, I feel stupid now.

since AA is off by default I leave it that way ...the only changes I made are the ones listed.
Well ...it did reset back to 640x480 once w/ no surround and my score was 66.6 no o/c.
I just get 48.8fps consistantly when set to 1024x768 with the rest default ...I attribute it to the o/c. I get around 43.5fps at stock vid speed.

    at 1024x768/high & o/c I get 31.3 first run and 48.8 second run everytime.

also ...I see maybe 1fps faster when I change the doomconfig file to:

    seta image_useCache "1"
    seta image_cacheMegs "128"
    seta image_cacheMinK "10240"

I think i need a new os install, perhaps 2K, DX9C and the new cats. That combo used to rock with Amd.

Give it a shot mack ...I think the 4.9's are worthwhile myself and I haven't heard of any issues yet.

Over at techreport I was reading a small tweak guide that said something about antialiasing and high mode ...

A note about antialiasing — You may have read at the HardOCP and elsewhere that antialiasing isn't necessary in this game—seems to be a near-universal opinion amongst those who have seen it. I don't totally disagree. In DOOM 3, object edges often have jaggies, but interior edges usually do not. Of course, the antialiasing used in most graphics cards today is multisampling, which typically only affects object boundaries. That's why you'll see annoying jaggies on interior edges in games like Far Cry, even with AA enabled. DOOM 3 doesn't have that problem, and I believe that it may be because id's pixel shader programs are programmed to do some antialiasing, at least in the game's "high quality" mode. So leave AA turned off, if you must. DOOM seems to kill interior edge jaggies anyhow.

So I just leave everything default.

Its those outer jaggies that bug me the most :(
