Hey mack (and everyone) I got one for ya ...

I forgot to mention this because I was too busy last night trying out new configurations.

you can bypass the heartbeat film at startup in doom3 by editing the startup line and adding +disconnect (after the parenthesis). I'm not at my computer so I don't remember what the startup looks like but I'll take a guess and edit it once someone corrects me.

    "c:\program files\doom3\doom3.exe" +disconnect

This will load the program instantly so you don't have to wait ...very helpful when tweaking and running that timedemo.

Pseudonym: What bios are you using in your 9800 PRO? Do you have a BBA 9800 PRO?

    Thanks.

    seta image_cacheMegs "128"
    seta image_cacheMinK "10240"

    Sapphire 9800pro / stock
    4.9beta
    DX9.0c

Slider set to "balanced" but 2xAA turned on

    31.0 fps

Hmmmm, How are you pulling that FPS with 2xAA and the same vid card I have?? Could DX9.0c make that much of a difference (I just did it and I only pull 24.7 with those settings)?

I have 0 clue as to whats on it right now. The bios is whatever I put on it when I got the card. If someone wants to tell me how to look for it, I'll tell ya! That, and now that you mention it, I may want to flash that to a newer one.

Not sure, Pseudo.... I'm not a big overclocker or tweaker. I don't overclock my video card. I have a sapphire radeon 9800 pro with a passive heatsink.

I know what it is!! Yours was a pro originally, you have faster memory than I do.

    Used macks settings exactly.
Cat 4.9 betas, DX9b and Win XP Pro SP1.

    Cpu @ 3.6GHz
    Ram @ 225MHz
    Radeon 9800 pro @ Stock (378 / 338)

    run #1 - 14.9
    run #2 - 15.1

    Radeon 9800 pro @ 440 / 348

    run #1 - 16.3

I wish my Radeons ram would o/c a bit more. *sadface*

jesus christ you people with P4s are gettting crushed. croc, what resolution is that? tell me you're running at 16x12. anyhow, on to my no so great anymore system...

    athlon xp 2400+ @ stock
    1GB of pc2100 generic/mismatched, don't know what cas/ras i have it set at RAM @ stock
9500 pro running on omega 2.5.51 clocked at 336/280 (stock is 275/275)

1024x768, all high settings, AA turned off
    seta image_useCache "1"
    seta image_cacheMegs "512"
    seta image_cacheMinK "20480"

I got 26.1 fps and it never skipped a beat. i tried it with 2xaa and i got 24 fps and it didn't look any slower either. bottom line is i'd love to run this thing 16x12 on a gefroce 6800gt, but considering i got the card for $180, the processor for $50 something, and the ram for ~$100, i'm honestly ecstatic that it plays this well with no drop off into powerpoint slide land. i'm not even going to bother testing it with my vid card at stock.

you P4 people, i feel for you brother.

croc I don't think your problem is your overclock at all ...you should be getting double that score at stock speeds. Apparantly there is another issue at hand. Perhaps your vid settings idunno. You sure nothing is running in the background?

    System specs:

csimon - Fresh Xp Pro install as of last week. I cut out all the XP bullshish and I boot @ 75-80MB Mem useage. I have all the current XP Pro updates, DX 9.0b and Cat 4.9. The only thing I can think of is that I have a bad Catalyst install (I rushed installing the 4.9's to play doom :X). Maybe using DX 9.0c would increase my FPS?

Wheee my R9600np @440/420 (stock 324/378) 1027x768 high quality 2xAA gives a nice uhh 13.2fps.. with AA off i get 17.4fps... so its only playable at 800x600, at high quality no AA, 27fps...

I just noticed you guys are all running that bench at 1024. In Macks original post he had it running @ 1280. I copied the exact setup he posted. I guess I'll do some 1024 runs tonight and see where I stand.

thanks for pointing that out ...I thought I read 1024x768 on high.
That's probably the problem right there.

Reading this thread, I'm thinking more and more my system will be crushed by this game. After reading HardOCP's Doom 3 hardware guide I was hoping to run 1024x768 high quality, but that probably won't be a real possibility.

I'll just have to see myself. I *may* be getting the game later today.

Quality sliders = max quality. FSAA and AF = app controlled. Vsync = always off.

well the quality sliders will hurt your performace definitely and may be why you cant oc your ram anymore than that. I think prime mentioned in his post that sliders were set to balanced which is where I keep mine ...maybe give that a shot ...may help your ram o/c as well.
I turn my vsync off as well but that is the only change I make ...I've read that whether you turn it off or on in those settings has no effect in doom anyway ...unless you enable/disable it within the advanced settings of that particular app.

Is it save to assume the beta cats paired with DX9.0c are improving the FPS?

you bastards and your brand new toys. i haven't felt such an urge to blow a few hundred dollars like this in quite awhile. i was thinking i'd get an nf7-s2, a gig of pc3200 and a new vid card. but then i should probably just make the jump to a64. of course my lack of disposable income would hinder any of this right now. i'd prostitute myself, but then i'd owe more money

    How much for a 30 mins session? .... I mean ....

Yeah ... I REALLY want to blow all my extra cash on a 6800gt right now too. Sigh.
