i tend to over-do some things and computers is no diffrent so i was just wondering if anybody knows of any 120mm case fans that move some massive air. i currently only have a cpu fan and one in the oem power supply and would like another in the top or side but the ones i find on like tigerdirect.com an so on dosent satisfly me. im looking for something in the 300 cfm range if that wont damage anything inside my case (i know thats huge but thats just me lol )
any suggestions or anybody want to tell me im stupid for posting this? lol

You won't find one that pushes 300 CFM at 120MM. About the best you can do is 1CFM/MM, maybe 1.1CFM/MM.

Take a look into the Vantec Tornado series of 120mm fans. I believe www.newegg.com stocks them.

alrighty.. thanks man.. BTW i am goin to wire it up with an external power source so it doesnt bog my power supply down. i havent disected it yet to see how many watts it is but i can imagine not very much being a e-machine

You probably won't need an external power source, but I would pay attention to the voltage rails in the BIOS before deciding to use it indefinitely.

There is no 120mm tornado to the best of my knowledge. What you want is a Delta 120mm EHE fan from www.sidewindercomputers.com
It pushes 190cfm at an ungodly noise level.

When Geeky said "ungodly noise level", he did not exaggerate.

You could probably use it to make a model hovercraft though, using a motorcycle baterry for power. ;D;D

Here's another choice that is a little bit quieter and much cheaper and still moves more air than the Delta 120.

I've ordered from them before and they were real good to do business with, but they have a minimum order of $15.00. They have a good selection of fans and also all kinds of other stuff, so it will be easy to find another $5.05 worth of stuff to get. I bought a few of these Fonsan 40 mm fans for northbridge replacement fans last year and they work well and aren't very noisy. I'll probably order some more soon. Their shipping charges were very reasonable too.

ahh the noise part dosent really bother me as the fun factor to be able to blow peoples hats off there head with my computer fan across the room. :-P
you guys have been infinitly helpfull, i probley cant help any of you with computer problems but if anybody has a older honda civic or accord im a walking repair manual :woowoo:

It will bother you. Trust me on this one. I can all but guarantee it will bother you. I used to say the same thing. There is a threshold between noisy and unbearably noisy; for almost everyone I know, that threshold is well below the noise output of the fans you're looking at. Although that Papst one would be far better, since larger fans make a deeper noise that most people find less annoying.

I agree with Geeky on this one. I have 92mm Adda fans pushing 60cfm @ 39db. For the first few months (this was back in late 2001, early 2002), I was fine with it. Now, I'm just plain sick of loud fans that I have the Adda's running at 5V. I can sleep with these fans at full speed but it just gets rather annoying during the waking hours. Right now I have to urge to replace my current case with an Antec SLK3700BQE so just that I can use quiet 120mm fans.

I probably have 5 or 6 real heavy duty 120mm fans that poush in the 115 to 130cfm range. About half of them are 120 volt not 12 and they seem quieter also. Probably have better bearings and stuff as they are pretty heavy metal fans. You definatly need a finger guard as they would just wop off a finger. I used several mounted ina huge server case. Like you I tend to over do it on these things and was trying to push air cooling to the extreme. It could of practialy served as a hovercraft or wood chipper at one time. I barely saved my 25lb cocker spanial as he was getting sucked in one day. LMAO

let me know if your interested as Tex has got to start thinning out all the extra crap I accumulated for our big Colorado move. I have a room full of crap. In some places stacked to the ceiling. No joke. They were pretty expensive when I bought them but would make ya a great deal on them now.

If you are into extreme delta (noise) madness try one of these:

    Delta gfb1248uhn 220.29cfm@3400rpm 120x120x76.2 dual axial
    Delta ffb1448whg 273.09cfm@3600rpm 140x140x50.8 hi perf axial

    :wow:

do your ears a favor and get a few thermaltake smartfan 2's @ 75cfm ea ...I have 5 on mine and I get 375cfm total and the noise i can bare.

Actually mine were not that bad. The old Delta 80mm 7,000 rpm fan I had on a swifttech heatsink was way louder. And its not even the noise but the pitch is lower when its low rpm. that 7k delta 80mm had a high pitched whine that was akin to having a dentist drill boring into my frontal lobe after several hours. With my big 120volt 120mm fans I used a rotary fan speed controler meant for ceiling fans and they worked awesome.

the delta 60mm does cause permanent irreversable brain damage! ;D

I will never forget that pitch as long as I live!! It went out with my kt7a-r

Do you remember the pics I had of the case with the 120mm? I made a hinged plexi door on a huge tower before you could get cases with windows in them.

I had three of the 120mm's stacked on top of each other staggered about an inch apart and when you closed the door the last one was about an inch off the huge swiftech heat sink and it didnt have its own fan. It had a huge funnel like thing directing the air from teh 120mm's over the heatsink. Talk about airflow.... OMG.

I kept tuning the distance between the fans to get maximum output. But it was also just outrageous looking as all h*ll when I swung the dorr open and you saw the three huge fans stacked. These are not like say the 120mm enermax fans that are slim. They are huge fat honker metal fans.

No actually it also made her quit using MY computer as she couldn't stand the noise. H*ll I turned them up full blast when I saw her even get near them.

See it works like this..... She finally says... "isnt there SOME WAY to get good cooling without the d*mn noise baby"

I say "Yep.... water cooling is the answer baby" You shoudl see the collection of plumbing, water blocks, and pumps not to mention a CHEST FREEZER in the computer room that little deal worked out into.

Which reminds me... I also have a bunch of water cooling crap to sell as well as the big azz 120mm fans. LMAO

You come pick it up and you can get a freezer to keep your fluid nice and chilled. Works good for keeping beer close to the computer also I found. (grin) heck I kept it filled with JUST BEER long after I ditched the water cooling stuff till Robin figured that out. Now I gotta walk aaaaaaalllllllll the way into the kitchen for a cold one. Robin thought I would get fat with no exercise. Oh well. She is still a pretty forgiving spouse for all the toys.

its nice to have a spouse in this buisness that at least partialy understands my obsession with hardware. She did think I had gone over the edge when (no joke) I found her a USB powered vibrator on eBay. She put her foot down on that one. LMAO She figures thats about the only way to get me out of the compuiter room now and having sex near the computer would set a very bad precident.

I hope you have a 24v power supply to run that beast if you want it running full speeds. Although it should still move a ton of air and might be fairly quiet if you run it on a 12v psu.
