You know, I actually read that through twice.
Beats Melville and James Fenimore Cooper, anyway.

You might like this. It says less, but in far fewer words.

I'm going to go put a cold wet towel on my head now.

Well, if you like interstellar physics, nuclear fusion, an analogy for the theory of relativity using words less than five letters long, and the working of suns...It's interesting! ;D

Well, the lesson of the flash in the seemingly irrelevant material that seems to have started this and the results were so out of line that on this second board in same machine (which was in fact an RMA Order shipped FROM Intel itrself after a first similar failure), was that the latest BIOS available gave multiple issues on the board. NOTHING was hot in this box during any of the presences of this board I was talking about, and had I told you about the three times(one was a different customer who returned the board to distributor) and got with same rev D845GBV (-301) I would have had duplicated content and 8 times the message size. ALL three were same board and board rev, and all told I have 25 hours into this one box diaging the boards(original plus two RMAs).

Not PSU, have had three different 400 Watt PSUs hooked up(not going to say what, you said short-media). All thermalled spontaneously within 2 hours with a shutdown and a need to get the BIOS jumper into recover mode (no jumper on) or to put the BIOS in config mode (half the time this config mode did not work).

I have had other techs report same issues, and board was same series Intel board and same board rev-- I skipped those totally. Soyo uses a different environmental layout on same Intel chipset board, including the main environmental info chip, and I have had one running for over a year with zero power issues. I have seen techs talking about other boards in the Intel line that in fact had same symptoms and resulted in RMAs with same environmental circuit desing, per motherboard 200+ page detail specs and I have 5 such different sets for different Intel boards that show clearly the desing used. I left that out,and figured a case study would be enough to show apporaches that could fix similar issues and show enthusiasts what to look for when a board spontaneously degrades to no-post after flashing to build 33 of the latest BIOS available from Intel which is P17) with both Thermal tones and no video when there are valid video connects in place and that was a non-issue prior to flashing.

Since not appreciated, no more SUMMARIZED case studies in diags will be posted here, period. I had been compressing 25 hours of testing, 40 hours research, and about 200 hours of other known tech experience with these environmental layout into a relatively short message. And emphasizing that Intel will not let you change boards so buying the D845GBV, also the GEBV2,and others of BG and GE series from Intel is a probable bad buy even now.

Personally, I will not buy another consumer or workstation board from Intel and strongly recommend not doing so, of consumer and not server grade. The environmental circuit design is at fault or the mfr of the environmentals is sending huger than acceptable defective quantities of environmental chips (which were not properly QC'd in by Intel with acceptance\verification random sample proof testing) that were speced TOO active for this Board and BIOS and Environmental control system.

John. (who will post short and terse and if deemed non-relevant due to non-understanding of material and why posted will probably not bother following up due to complaints about a 1 printed page summary of over 1 years' intermittent and peer shared work by over 25 field techs).

    LATER.

I think the root of the matter is:

    We're talking about the Abit NF7-S 2.0...

You spent an entire page talking about Intel boards, environmental chips, and QC.

This thread has to be one of the funniest I've read in a long while.

Thrax and Ageek should go on the road as a computer geek comedy duo. You guys could work this into something like Abbott and Costello did with "Who's on First?!"

Bravo! But then, I like the author James Michener. It can take him 250 pages discusses ace ages and tectonic plate shifts before he gets to directly to the subjects of his books.

Thrax and Ageek: You are both characters that add valuable spice to this forum. ;D:wave:;D

But methinks most of you missed my point. I know Mackanz understood, however.

Fine, MJO and Thrax, I will not bother explaining the WHYs or troubleshooting logic based on having troubleshot literally 100's of systems anymore. And you folks can assume I am crazy like a fox. A Very Experienced Fox. Who has been in IT since 1986. you will lose my experience, so will all the other folks who hang here. SO BE IT!

My longer logic will go elsewhere, on my own two Sarcnet Industries, Inc.-Hosted domains(I actually have 7 domains registered, and 5 point to my two sites, 3 to one and two to another), as I see fit. I thought the logic might help enthusiasts. Since this is a now a VERY NEGATIVE Short-Media byte, I assume someone put it there.

My rule in IT is to NEVER assume, so I have to show where things fit to help in reality without causing some real grief for end users. As a Pro, I would be liable for that under US law, it is caused NEGLIGENCE to not use due care in giving information out.
