There's no way I can buy one locally, the local shops are charging around $100 for the XP2000+ Tbred-A, and none of 'em have Thortons in at all yet. GRR.
I've read that page before, but it doesn't say what it actually IS.
I mean, when you open the box, what are you looking at? The way they describe what the product does without telling you how it does it or what the product looks like disturbs me.
Does a gallon of milk tell what it does on the box?
You can get a good guess by the nutrition facts label. Or we could be real and acknowledge that we all know what the hell a damned gallon of milk is.
The reason why I asked was I wanted to know if I could do what the SpeedStrip did myself for cheaper. I appreciate Thrax's response.

I agree with you, but i hope you understand i was just joking/tiny sarcassssmmss'ing you right? You can never know these days around here. The strip closes some/ a few pins so that all multipliers are available on mainboards that supports that. That way, you won't have to use silver to close them. Less work, much better if you rma the cpu.
keto had this to say Gallon? What's a gallon? Is it measured in litres?? =P
/me just tried to be US-international. Do you canadians use metric? Good folks!
GHoosdum had this to say Umm... so if the Thortons are locked, what's my best bet for buying a good OC-able processor to replace the XP2100 in my secondary rig? Are the 1800s at NE DLT3Cs?
Ordered a Retail 1800+ from NE a 3-4 weeks ago. Got this stepping : JIUHB DLT3C 0333VPMW
Also you can get a pretty good idea of the recent steppings by looking at the reviews.
Mackanz had this to say /me just tried to be US-international. Do you canadians use metric? Good folks!
Yup metric it is here. Started converting in about '76 or '77, finished up in early '80's. Most people over 35 (me) are reasonably conversant in Imperial measurements tho, I was just being a(n) *insert idiot reference here*. Just don't ask my kids to try and define a gallon/yard/ounce heh.

Al, I'm wondering if all the retail Athlon XP1800s now are JIUHB DLT3Cs... I bought 4 of them from Fry's a month or two back (1 for me, 1 for a friend, 2 for mmonnin), and all 4 were JIUHB DLT3Cs.
oh! and I forgot some more bad news, for me that is...
I cannot mod the L2 to get the full cache because the contacs are hidden under the surface... :bawling:
EQuito had this to say Thanks! that's a good idea except that nobody knows which pins to connect on these new Barton's/Thorton's (see thread at Xtreme forums). The bridges look connected so speculation is that AMD is using a different method this time around.
The easiest way is actually yo close the pins on the back of the mainboard when you know which pins to close.
Lemme see.....what was that site with all the unlocking stash? The interactive one?
That Thorton should be the same as a regular Barton. So look at that guide for unlocking the barton, the same should be for that horton cause it's the same cpu from the beginning. Have the link?
No, I don't have a link and I have no idea how, remember that this is my first Barton so I haven't been reading or anything. If the mod includes soldering to the board itself I'll pass.
I'd rather do some wire mod or that pinstrip thing.
Get either your tiny wires out or some conductive silver.
You can either wire the pins on the cpu or paint the back of the mainboard. This is for a 11 multi and a default fsb of 166 instead of 133:
Thank you both, I appreciate your help but that's too much trouble, not worth it IMO.
Besides, I'm already stuck at a single multi so what's the point?
I'm outta here, I hijacked this thread too much already.
How strange it may sound but i actually wished i had a locked Thorton so i could try and unlock it. Sure you don't want me to ship it? I can get more of them probably. Europe is ancient remember :/
Yeah that price is okay, the only other place I could find a Thorton labeled as such was eWiz, and theirs is $67.

Gargoyle, if the Fry's your friend is near is like the 3 or 4 I'm near, they keep the CPUs in locked cages behind the counter, and you only get it @ checkout. I doubt they'd go back and switch it if you asked them to, although they might.

The KV7 sees the Thorton as being 1800+ with 100MHz FSB and the multi still locked at 15...

How about a pin-mod?
I'm up for it! do you know how?
Sure,

Why am I up? I don't know, I felt posting like a maniac tonight...
I'll just run it as high as I can, probably 166 x 15 @ 1.7v or maybe more alas F@H is stable.
Cheers!
I have a friend who lives near a Frys. I wonder if they'd let him check the week number on the CPU?
Thanks to Alex from Abit FAE Taiwan.
