The only programs that I wanted open were the essential windows programs and Norton and Spy Sweeper. I was looking through the log and there seem to be a lot more than that open. :-( Sorry about that, Must make it hard to read with all that junk in there.

sry for this short message. but my computer completly freezes (no ctrl-alt-del) if i'm on for longer than about 10 min.

I've been infected with something called "W32.AlCra.B" here's HJT, any help, as always, is greatly appreaiated. i wont be able to check for about a week. But after that I'd like to try to fix this. (and hopefully then i'll be able to describe this better) Thanks a bunch!

sir guy welcome you have the vundo infection please follow these removal instructions
Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

• Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
• Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
• You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
• When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
• Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
• You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
• Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
• When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
• Turn your computer back on.
• Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

I found that if I ignore the Norton AntiVirus messages my computer wont freeze, however it is running extremely slow. Thanks for your responce. I downloaded VundoFix when I first posted about my first problem and it didn't find anything then. I've downloaded it again and it's currently running and hasn't found anything yet (it's been running for about one hour).

This is the message that I get about every 1-3 seconds if I keep clicking the "ok" button. These messages still appear even if I'm not conected to the internet (cable pulled from the computer), but they don't in safe mode.



I've looked in the task manager and there are about 20-40 ssu.exe processes running. More appear everytime the "ok" button is pressed, and sometimes when it's not.
Like I said before, these messages began appearing when I was running the "Spyware Blaster" program. I was reading through the forum and I noticed the "Before you post a HJT," so i started going through the steps. I was on step #3.

Looks like I'll sill be here for the next couple of hours. Thanks for your help.

I dont really know how to disable norton, but I prevented it from starting when windows starts. I ran VundoFix and the computer froze after about one hour--by froze i mean nothing worked, the only way to turn it off was to push the power button. I did HJT anyway:

As you can probably see from the log, ssu.exe was still going crazy. I dont like this virus. lol

I dont really know if it helps. Hope it does. I'm going to run Vundo Fix in safe mode because my computer doesn't freeze in safe mode.

yea that is strange lol but ssu.exe is NOT a virus its a process from webroots spysweeper that is NOT a rogue antispyware its actually a highly regarded program..but try doing vundo fix in safe mode and get the vundo fix log from that if you can and post it here if it completes in safe mode good luck

Ok, so I started up in safe mode, I tried to run VundoFix as a task. It told me it would come back in a min. It never did. So I ran it normaly (not as a task). It didn't find anything (so i couldn't get the log). I did a HJT log anyway (while in safe mode):

And about ssu.exe, I'm not too worried about it being a virus, I'm worried about it eating up all my virtual memory. 110 of them running at 4kk each. that a total of 440,000,000 memory being used by suu.exe. :wow: :banghead:

lol should I disable spysweeper too? then maybe my computer won't freez and go so slow with all those ssu.exe? Then maybe i'll be able to finish a scan with VundoFix.

lol actually I forgot to mention that yes please disable spysweeper and any other protection programs you have (anti virus, anti spyware etc) then try vundo fix..only this time when run vundo fix skip the run it as a task option and go ahead and scan for it and lemme know how that goes (post log of vundofix if it works)

Ok I did that. VundoFix ran really fast, but still didn't find anything. I've restarted my computer and turned both norton and spysweeper back on, and no messages saying that I've got a virus! My computer is also running a lot faster. After my last post I went into safe mode and did sweeps with Spysweeper, Norton, Ad-Aware, and Spybot. Each sweep found something different, and Norton found 4 "W32.Alcra.B" viruses. I restarted my computer into normal mode and still got the messages. So I checked this site, did what you said, restarted and now everything seems to be working fine.

BUT........ I'm not sure it is. Sysprotect still inserts itself into my startup. Here's another HJT log (Is there any way to shorten these? Because mine always seem so long. I've already done the "delete temp files," etc. :-\ ):

thats good but could you please do this for me (before doing this online scan go to all your anti-malware programs i.e spysweeper, norton, ad-ware,spybot and purge *delete all* quarentined items then run this scan)Please run the BitDefender online scan from here; http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html
You will need to allow an active x install for the scan to run.
Leave the scanning options at default and press "click here to scan"
When finished scanning, click on "click here to export the scan report"
Save it to your desktop, at "file name" type in "bdscan" then click save.
Please attach the bdscan.html file to your next post along with a new hijackthis log.

ok I'm about to run the scan. That's the same scan that I was running when I got infected with W32.Alcra.B so if I dont make a post for a week I got infected again. lol. I'm going on vacation for about a week, I'm leaving in about 9 hours. so if i get infected again I'm just going to pull the plug and try to fix it after I get back. oh ok..yes but most of the infected files are in your system restore folder which is heavily protected by windows but no worries we'll take care of those at the end and the only other virus not in the sys. restore folder was deleted. let me know when your back & we'll continue have fun:)

:bigggrin: I'm back. Thanks, had a good time. Before I left I looked at the Norton Anti-Virus site and it told me to delete all the system restore points, so I did. I'm still getting the High Risk messages but.... perhaps there's still something here. hehe :bigggrin:

could you do this for me please-->Open hijackthis
- Click the Config... button, then go to the Misc Tools section.
- Click on Open Uninstall Manager. You'll see a list of programs.
- Click on Save List...

The file "uninstall_list.txt" will be created. Copy and paste the contents of this file to your next reply. and yes I would of had you reset your system restore as to delete all infected restore points but you beat me to it (although for future reference you shouldn't delete the restore points unless asked to do so by me or any other malware helper incase something does go wrong) but in this case its fine

yes there is uninstall any programs you don't need/use, and also be sure to uninstall this program-->Pure Networks Port Magic and viewpoint media player is optional but I recommend to uninstall its foistware which isn't as "bad" as spyware but it still collects info from your computer and such heres more information on it if your interested viewpoint and then BE SURE to do this step as its updating your java for security reasons please uninstall J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03 then go here to download and install latest java version--->http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_ie.jsp and after doing all these please reboot and return with fresh HJT log

When I instaled the new Java it instaled 2 BHO's. Was that ok? Also, now my computer is trying to configure Norton Antivirus at startup. That fails and it tells me to uninstall then re-install norton.

I just recieved another computer (I still want to fix this one though). If I unplug this computer from the internet and plug that one into the Internet conection will that computer be more susceptible to attacks? What I mean is, can I pulg my computer into the network without worrying about getting infected, or should I be extra carefull?

Thanks for all your help so far. My computer is back to normal except for the norton thing and it still cant find C:\program, but at least those High Risk messages are gone.

thats good and sir guy 1 other thing about Norton I forgot to mention no offense to symantec or anything but when I had Norton AV i had nothing but trouble with it.. takes up an enormously amount of system resources *RAM* un neededly, I had to uninstall and reinstall it many times and most of the time it'd let some viruses past so I got fed up with it and went w/ AVG which in my opinion and most others i've talked to both in person and here on the internet (forums, message boards, review sites etc) is that Norton is a waste of money as it hogs your RAM and doesn't even catch half the viruses it should be and worst of all you have to pay for yearly virus update subscriptions while AVG is best of all FREE and catches most if not all viruses it should be unlike Norton...now if you've paid for Norton and still under your 1st year of virus subscriptions then I'd recommend using Norton until the subscriptions expire then uninstall it and download and install AVG..believe me and ask anyone on here for assurance if you need to AVG blows Norton out of the water in any and all aspects of what an anti virus program should be.. just my 2 cents sir guy:) PS here sir guy I found 1 forum thread on how and why Norton is a complete waste of money just incase you'd like an outside 2nd opinion-->http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?t=149401

I'll back up what jmoney said about both Norton and AVG. Five years ago Norton was a great program, but these days it has swollen into a bloated load of crap. Go AVG all the way.

Thanks for the info about Norton. I'll keep it in mind when it's time to renew (or terminate) the subscription.

I'm still getting the "High Risk" messages if I try to do a sweep with norton, and my computer is running a little slower than usual. So I think the virus is still on my computer. I did a sweep with SpyBot S&D and it found a "Double Click" cookie and "Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter_disabled" in the registry. What should I do about this virus? Thanks as always for your help.


Oh, also, should I worry about infecting my new computer if I plug it into the same network as this computer? thanks.

on Norton--> Sir guy once your subscription ends I strongly recommend you don't renew it and uninstall it and get AVG or another free one (such as Avast!) because like You saw prof say Norton back 5+ years ago WAS good but now its just a bloated non effective waste of a program and doesn't block viruses for the life of anything and 2) to be on the side of caution I think you should keep your new PC unplugged until this pc is dis infected because as you probly know they're viruses/trojans/other malware out there that use network connections and such to infect computers

ok :smiles: I won't renew my subscription with norton. My new computer came with McAfee. Is McAfee as bad as Norton?

And about the network. I'm going to move the infected computer to a different location (by about 5 miles, soooo different IP too right?) So the two computers will never actually be in contact. I'm just going to unplug the infected computer and plug in the new computer. Is that still risky? Just want to make sure.

mcafee is a little better but i think AVG is better overall but its obviously up to you my friend, as for moving the infected comp away *network wise* from the new one is fine, but you have a vundo infection, please follow these instructions-->Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

• Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
• Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
• You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
• When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
• Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
• You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
• Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
• When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
• Turn your computer back on.
• Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
