Yes I rebooted the computer and when it came back up it was still:

~showing the error message, "Cannot find C:/program"
~inserting "syp" in the startup tasks (msconfig)
    ~running really slow

    :confused2 :sad2:

yes, i feel your pain:wink: but lets try this please go here--->http://www.trendmicro.com/spyware-scan/ then click tmas-scan.gif and download/run the trendmicro spyware remover and let me know if it found anything NOTE: it doesn't provide a report so just lemme know if it finds anything and what as in cookies, or more serious spyware :)

it depends on your usage and everything but in general i'd say about once every week or 2, but i just noticed from your log a leftover file from vundo infection so please do a system scan only in HJT making sure no windows except hjt itself are open and fix *check* the following line and then reboot/post new log:) --->O20 - Winlogon Notify: pmnlk - C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmnlk.dll (file missing)

its ok thank you:wink: hows the pc running now?

    Two things:

    1) Please save SilentRunners to your desktop and post the log it creates back to this thread.

    2) SpysweeperUI.exe does not close properly on any PC on any version - it resists the Microsoft shutdown command and appears to hang. Your PC is fine - it's a SpySweeper bug.
  • edited August 2006
The computer is still the same. :-/ (Syp in startup, "Cannot find C:/Program")

@Thrax: Spysweeper worked fine for about 1 year until this recent virus epidemic occured. But I'll do the Silent Runners thing next time I have access to the computer.

lets try this sir guy-->Please perform an online virus scan with F-Secure Online Scanner.

Please navigate (using Internet Explorer, other browsers won't work) to the following site: http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols3.shtml
    • Click the F-Secure Online Scanner Next Generation Beta link.
    • When prompted, choose to install the software.
    • After the software has installed, click Accept.
    • Click Custom Scan and check the option for Scan inside archives, then click Start.
    • The necessary databases will then be downloaded, and the scan will then start automatically. Please be patient as this scan will take a while to complete.
    • If any infections are found then once the scan has finished the "cleaning" screen will be displayed. Choose Automatic cleaning (recommended).
    • After cleaning has finished, then the Finish screen will be displayed. Choose Show Report.
    • In order to post the report, press CTRL+A on your keyboard to highlight all the text. Then copy and paste that information into this thread, along with a new HijackThis log.

sry for taking so long again. been having massive problems with other computer issues :aol: lol

Ok I fixed that line and rebooted (syp still inserts itself into the startup menu, cannot find C:\Program, etc) I received a windows security message telling me that Norton was turned off; I quickly turned it back on. It’s now been 10 min since I rebooted and still no internet (I rebooted again, same thing, ok well it looks like my internet has been disabled. I'm getting msgs saying that there's something wrong with the IP address, contact network admin, etc. doesn't look good :-/ ).

Well anyway, here’s the log file (and whoopee for laptops and wireless):

ummm well since i can't connect to the internet i couldn't download onto that computer, but i downloaded via another computer and got the program onto the problem computer.

I ran the application, it didn't detect any problems. I rebooted and,,, no change. :-/

I dont have norton firewall either, that i know of (or anything other than windows firewall). :-/

    ***EDIT***

well last night i tried to reassign the IP address and it wouldn't work. It repeatedly told me to contact the person who managed my internet.

After i tried the above, i again tried to reassign the IP. well this time it worked. lol so now i have internet again. ;)

hey SG, good to hear from you:bigggrin: it seems as if our little friend WinAVpro 06 has joined your system again don't worry he won't be there for long..but first sir guy did you uninstall norton? If your subscription to norton for its virus definitions have expired I would STRONGLY recommend uninstalling it and installing a good free one such as AVG or avast! but if you havn't uninstalled norton yet and would like to could you please let me know which version as I can then provide you with better removal instructions as each Norton version has its own removal instructions for complete removal

I havent uninstalled norton yet, but the suscription I have is still good for a couple of months. I'll check on the version, but should I uninstall it even though I still have an active subscription?

Sorry, again, for taking so long to respond. I should have better response times from now on. :rolleyes2 I'll be spending more time on the computer and less time being busy. ;)
