Who wants SM17?
mmonnin
Centreville, VA
It has been delayed enough. I want these parts out of my room!!
As always here are the rules for hosting a SMx rig. They have been modified for the better so read carefully.;)
1) Team member must be in good standing and have shown dedication to Team Short-Media, former Team Icrontic, and the Folding@Home project for the long haul. Past participation and contributions are taken into account.
2) The member must be able to provide SM17 with a safe and secure environment for an extended period of time - this means an indeterminate period.
3) You must be knowledgeable in building computers and loading operating systems, and all that is entailed. You are at Short-Media.com, there is a wealth of knowledge, use it. In the event the rig should fail, the host is expected to make a good effort in trying to repair the rig and report to the team what is going on.
4) Dedicated, "always-on" Internet connection 24/7, 56K and up, and a free port on an existing network (we don't normally supply routers/hubs/switches with the SMx rig). If the internet connection should fail, the host is expected to make good faith efforts to get back online as soon as is possible.
5) The computer must run and as a result, "Fold" 24/7. (Yes, the Team is generous enough to allow you to go on vacation and turn it off.) Keep in mind that 24-hour operating will increase your electricity bill by up to a few dollars per month. The Team expects the host to make good faith efforts to keep the rig running as much as is possible.
6) The computer shall fold for Team #93, under the user name of "SMx" exclusively unless it has been voted on to make it differently. The team can/will monitor the rigs output by way of statistics provided by Stanford, Statsman and the like.
7) In the event the host can no longer host the SMx rig or he/she is not able to run the rig for an extended period of time due to things like being called to duty in the armed forces for example, it is to be found a new host by normal host selection process.
8) What does the host get out of this? The pride of being able to host a SMx Folding rig, one of very few to earn this privilege. To be able to help Team Short-Media be the best team and the F@H project find cures.
Disclaimer;
- All Team-donated parts that go into a SMx donated Folding@Home computer are property of the Short-Media.com Folding@Home Team.
- Short-Media.com, and/or its owner(s), and/or administrator(s), and/or moderator(s), and/or member(s), shall not be held responsible or liable for any losses incurred either directly, or indirectly as a result of hosting any SMx rig. The host selected shall bear full responsibility for said rig. By applying to be selected as a host, you acknowledge you understand, agree with, and will abide by these rules as set forth here and as may be amended in the future as required.
NOTE; This entire project and the rules set forth above is/are based on TRUST. We, the team, trust that you, the host, will do all you can to keep the rig folding as much as is possible, in its name, for the Short-Media.com Folding Team. You, the host, trust, that we, Team Short-Media, support you in every way we can.
Here is a lil incentive for the host, a review of the case Sm17 will live in.
And who else would review such a case? Why our very own MediaMan of course!! Koolcases Platinum XP Case Review.
Its a very nice case and will be in competition with its younger siblings for best looks.
So anyone that can meet the requirements posted aboce and would like to host such a machine, please enter your name in the 'hat' and a host will be picked in a week depending on the number of entries.
Come and get it fellas.:)

Oh well, good luck in getting it, everybody. It's an honor to host a Short-Media machine, trust me!
BTW: In case nobody knows, the machine that I host is called bart.short-media.com.. It's the webserver for this site
I'm just now getting back into the swing of things here, being gone for so long.
Do we have all the necessary parts for SM-17? Perhaps I missed the thread asking for parts or monetary donations?
I want to see pictures of this rig when it gets to its new home. (I am way too easily distracted by shiny things.)
Leo: Its been a LONG TIME since we have had to ask for parts. We have had a steady supply of parts and machines. muddocktor donated a whole machine and all it needed was a NIC. Mortin donated a whole bunch or parts and sent them to TD for easy access and there are still parts from that. Necropolis and shorty put a machine together themselves which Necropolis now hosts. MediaMan sent me the case, mobo, HSF, and fans for IC17, extra fans and HSFs for future SMx rigs. I have also picked some parts here and there. I have some vid cards, HDDs, NICs and some SDRAM for future boxens. danger and others have pledged several CPUs so we are ready there too.
So far we have:
jdii1215
im more than game to take this on if you'd like me to
////edit --- incidentally. I got nics, some sdram, a harddrive, video cards and a HSF or two for more boxes even if i dont get picked
fold on y'all
Leo
well, I would love to host SM-17, and seeing how I've been trying to get selected to be a host since IC13, its brings some sadness that I cannot put my name in the hat due to recent cutbacks in expenses http://www.short-media.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=142
Best of luck to those candidates!

I also have a Palomino 1600+ and a Soyo Dragon K7V plus. I'll verify it works, and let you know if the soyo is still good.
I might have another stick of PC2100 for that too. I'll check.
*cough* I'll take it *cough*
Ahh screw this, Good luck to who ever get the rig, just make sure you give it a nice new home.

jdii1215 has been removed because of a temporary ban and lack of respect for the forums. His post.

Best of luck everyone
Side note... How is shiping handled for the rig? I'm assuming that the tower is what is all that is offered (Like I need another mouse and keyboard.... )
No mouse, no keyboard, no monitor, no cables. Just enough to hold it and the host prevides the electricity and housing.
Hmm that reminds me, I will have to set aside a few dollars to ship the case and the enclosed parts.
I have a XP 1800 tbred that does about 2.2 ghz with a standard athlon heatsink. I´d love to host a folding machine. The parts i would need is a motherboard, ram and a case. I have the rest.
Mac
I am fully A+ certified (and soon to be Net+ I hope). I have many spare parts lying around the house that could be used incase of a breakdown/burnout, including many extra cables of all types, mice, keyboards, video cards, hard drives, really everything besides, a mobo, case, and CPU.
My main monitor (the P1100) has a second input connection ready for a second PC. Adding the box to my home would literally be no trouble at all… As I would keep the box in my bedroom (situated in the basement) it would stay safe, dry, and cool. My bedroom is already setup for adding such a machine, including the extra Ethernet port ready to go! I’d just sit next to my main rig (also folding 24/7).
I have been looking for a way to help the folding team recently, and I would be honored to host SM17, or any folding rig.
If you can get someone else to complete the system then you can do what Necropolis and Shorty did for IC16_uk.
