Killed My 9500 Pro...Need Suggestions on a Successor

Heya,

I'm in the market for a new video card (unwillingly I'm afraid), and am searching for something that isn't too expensive (i.e. 5900 or a 9800), but something that will give me good performance for this Fall's games and beyond.

I think I've narrowed it down to these three

1. 9700 non-Pro
2. 9700 Pro
3. 9600 Pro
4. 9500 Pro (again)

If anyone could share there thoughts on these cards (overclockability, etc;) it'd be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Joe

The 9600 sucks; Any of the other three would be excellent. I'd go with a 9700 pro or nonpro, since they're somewhat faster than the 9500, and the nonpro 9700 isn't much more expensive than the 9500 pro.

If you do decide on the 9500 Pro, better find one fast. If I'm correct, they've been discontinued by ATI (what, too much performance for a modest price?). No really, there aren't many vendors with those cards still on the shelves. The 9600/Pro is more expensive, and by many accounts does not perform as well as the 9500 Pro. I just installed I 9500 Pro (private trade) a few days ago. Love it. Probably be looking for a second one for the other computer soon.

    Eh hrm. http://www.icronticforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1386

I'm looking to sell this combo for a little more than a r9700 pro. I'm also looking to trade.

Only problem i see with the r9700 nonpro is that you need to update the bios of the card to be able to unlock it, which is why i want to sell it. I dont see myself being up for the job.

I would look at how soon you were planning to upgrade prior to the loss of the current card????? If you were thinking of possibly getting one of the up coming cards this fall you may want to get somthing like a used ti4200 that would be cheap then get the big kahuna a little later on. If not then go for the 9700pro or a 9800pro now and a few dog chew toys to save your teeth when the next batch arrives.

I have done some research and I now favour the 9800 non pro over the 9700pro which are the same price. The 9800 has the newer core and is fully DX9 compliant unlike the 9700pro. Nothing wrong with the 9700pro though and maybe it has the edge performance wise but since I can't find any 9800np benchmarks I don't know.

Whatever you get don't kill it.... well not straight away anyhow.
