Folding is probably beyond the scope of this thread, but you can find everything you'd ever possibly want to know here:

Alright, I downloaded the folding at home program but I'm not sure if I set it up right. I am going to have it at home and at work. What do I need to do to be a functioning member of the team? Folding seems like a great cause as my grandfather has parkinson's that has made his life difficult. He is my best friend and anything I can do to help is a wonderful thing.

Oh, I think that I will look into a HDTV eventually but I will probably get a nice, big moinitor for now.
to become a team member all you have to do is use team number 93 and you are in! You should consult the link that drasnor posted to get an idea of what settings to use in the configuration.

Yeah, he's getting the Antec PP1080 soho file server case. It ought to come with a True430, and I should know because I have one. It houses my sick Athlon MP machine.

It's a great case, exept it weighs a good deal. You won't want to move it around much. Don't forget to clean the air filter regularly.

Covered already since it doesn't have the software disc that you need as well as a remote and all the little goodies that help with using the AIW part.

In my experience, all floppy drives are created equal. Get one that matches your case (black bezel). I've got a brown one that came out of a 286, and a little oil and a thorough dusting later it's making disks just as well as any I've found in late-model PC's.

Seriously, that isn't what I would call a GREAT deal. It's good, but not great. By the time you buy all the neccessary cables, remote, and whatnots you'd be better off not buying it.

The P4 that ourlove2082 is purchasing is retail: it comes with a copper-core based AVC SunFlower cooler (the retail P4 cooler), which is surprising damned good at cooling. Sure, it's no SLK-900 or Zalman, but even for mild overclocking, the retail P4 heatsink is pretty good. :)

Who said he was getting a P4? :D

The only P4s that are faster than the AXP are the 3.0 and 3.2GHz models. They are not faster enough (great grammar there :D) to justify the huge price difference between them and the AMD Athlon XPs.

You'd be better off getting an Athlon XP system.

i wouldnt get a 9600 pro, thats a rip if you ask me. Just get a 9800 pro 128 card. And i'd stick to AXPs ... dont get an A64 until the 939 pin chips and motherboards come out next year. As for a DVD burner... Any fast DVD-R drive would be fine, or for dual media writers... i love my Sony +/-RW :)

    Case X-Alien Turbo Case w/ 420w power supply $120.00
TV Tuner Leadtek Winfast TV2000XP Deluxe $46.00
Card Reader In-Win Card Reader black $26.00
    Total $1,209.60

All price include shipping charges and tax where applicable.
I only overclocked it slightly becuase stabilty was the most important factor seeing how I don't live with my parents and won't be there if something goes wrong. So in the end I ended up letting it run at a nice even 2.0Ghz (10x200). You can save money by taking somethings out (like the tuner card or card reader if you don't want those options) and then channel those funds into something more useful, like a better video card. Or you can save money on the monitor with a CRT.

Now, what would I suggest upgrading on there if you wanted to spend more?

    Motherboard- ABIT NF7-S

Video Card- ATi Radeon 9600 Pro, 9600 XT, 9700, 9700 Pro, 9800, or 9800 Pro would all be viable upgrades

RAM- Another 512MB of RAM would be ideal

Heatsink- The Volcano 11 is a decent heatsink for a stock CPU, but you'd be better off with a Thermalright SLK-800 or 900 if you want to overclock.

Those fan grills have got to go. They're on a number of generic cases, and I hate them. I absolutely hate them. They restrict >50% of the fan's airflow, and they create a hell of a lot of noise. They're easy to remove, either with a dremel or a 3" hole saw, but they still have to go. If you want to replace them, get some of the wire fan grills, but those things simply cannot stay.
