Alright, Dremil removal and a drill to make new mounting holes for the fans? Apart from the Tower and PS (Power Supply, right?), what if any other issues do you see with these selections?

ON newegg, just give it NF7S without dash. One other thing, if you have the spare bucks a Logitech MX-700 has a charger tranceiver and comes with Ni-MH rechargable batteries. Park it in it transceiver, plug the power cord into BACK of USB socket, and she will recharge from scratch (fully discharged) in about 2 hours and run several days to a week between charges. To wake a sleepy computer, enable USB support in BIOS, then lift your MX-700 out of cradle (charger\transceiver) or off mouse pad a coupole times, and XP wakes right up. cat's meow of a mouse, faster than an MX-500 by a tib, and tells you when it needs charging bad by blinking a red LED that turns green and blinks green when charging. Once every 6-7months I clean the charge contacts off with Alcohol.

NEAT toy, 6 button plus normal two for right click and click mouse functions. Center is wheel AND switch combo, adn the two by a right-handed person's thumb can be programmed easily in drivers installed with MouseWare. Batteries CAN be replaced, but in 1.5 years have not needed to replace cells, and 1800mAH to 2400 mAH Ni-MH rechargables from Walmart can be used just fine, get fast charge ones for best results.

Other than that, agree with other system recommendations so far. If you are a gamer, would say that AMD is what you want to go with now.

    John.

Case has mount holes. Leave mount holes, cut roundish small holed part OUT. But, on front, get filters for fans down close to floor, they will suck dust into case otherwise. Rinse filters with water, blow dry with air can over a sink or outside. Every month to two, outside max.

Looks good. Just curious about the RAM, Why 2700, wouldn't it be better to go big there? I noticed that the latency is lower on the 2700, would that be better than higher bandwidth?

I went with PC2700 because the 2100+ is a 133MHz bus chip, and really technically only needs PC2100, but PC2700 is no more expensive, and offers better upgradeability.

In this case, the PC2700 would be better, yes. CL3 is very high for DDR400 and really pretty awful... CL2 would be ideal, but 2.5 is the most common speed you'll find for high quality DDR400 and faster RAM (up to about DDR466 or so, anyhow)

The only time it wouldn't be better is if overclocking is anticipated. But beyond that, the memory speed makes no difference, as long as it's at least as fast as the CPU's bus speed. Also, the athlon doesn't have the huge memory bandwidth hunger the P4 does, and since it's on a 133MHz bus anyhow, giving it 200MHz RAM is just a waste of money.

Heh, I saw the DDR400 and the Tbred 2100 and just sort of assumed he was overclocking :D. If you're not o'cing then get some PC2700 with really aggressive timings like Geeky suggested.

I just read a great article at madshrimps concerning timings ...nothing I didn't already suspect but thought I'd share http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticle&articID=133
