NEW: Achievements!

I've added a sweet little plugin for recognizing achievements on Icrontic. Click "Achievements" in the nav bar to see what we have so far, and to request achievements you've earned.

I arbitrarily added achievements for a few people, but most will have to request 'em since my memory is a sieve ;)

Please suggest new achievements here and I'll add the best ones. :)

    • helpful
    • gives accurate info (trustworthy?)
    • Humped by snuffie
    • Slept on prime's couch
    • Modder (case mods, etc.)
    • asks dumb questions (idea from Cambrose)
    • Mac Daddy (mac owner / apple expert)
    • Young hipster (The airbornflght award)
    • The Thelemech "useless posts abound" award (thelemech's idea)
    • Music knowledge (can't think of a clever phrase - but people like Kwitko, Guyute, etc..)
    • Overuse of smileys award

    The Achievements button doesn't show up under the IC Dark theme for me.

    I think you'll rue the day you allowed the dark theme... I don't mind a bit of brightness myself, keeps me cheery :D

    My suggestions:
    • A LAN party award for having attendedan IC/SM LAN (maybe also a special 'gold' version for having been at all IC/SM LANs)
    • An award for being an official representative to the community from a big-name company (like Ryder, and the guys who visit from NewEgg)
    • 'Star' awards that indicate the number of years one has been a member (like the ones for Boyscouts) (this one would only be practical if it could be set to give itself out automatically)

    More suggestions will follow ;)

    Also, I'd love to help design some of the badges if you don't feel like doing all of them yourself.

    The gamer achievement is for the LAN. When I get up the courage to award it to every lan attendee ever later on today, you'll get yours too :p

    (It's a manual process, it takes a while)

    Can some of them be set to be awarded automatically from profile details?

    Eh, not really. I'd have to hack them.

    I shied from doing a "LAN achievement" and instead did the "IC Gamer" and "I Exist" achievements. My goal was to make a situation where going to a LAN gets you multiple achievements, but the LAN wouldn't be the only way to get them, since it's cost-prohibitive for a number of members :)

    I'm trying to stick to positive achievements and ones that it's possible for anyone to theoretically get.

    Totally cool. I thought i finnaly got a reply from the Short one, but it was from Prime. I thought first..wtf? Spam at IC?

    It's not for being annoying :D It's for being a part of the community in your own special way :p

    Plus now that you'll be attending Lan 08, you'll have two more shiny achievements afterwards (the "I exist!" badge and the "IC Gamer" Badge) :p

    That works for me, seeing how I'm a single malt Scotch snob. Too bad there's not enough room in the icon to have a picture of Hefner in the smoking jacket, puffing on a stogie, holding the snifter full of Brandy.

    Also, I just noticed when trying to get to that page that the achievements link doesn't appear in the bar at the bottom... not really important, but I didn't know if it was on purpose or not ;)

    I question the need for alcohol related achievements on a technology website, personally.

    How about one for good/honorable traders in the deal depot that have had X amount of trades or purchases from/to other members?
