Sweet Totally needs to have a love scene. Maybe there'll be some decent Rarity out by then...I gotta say, for Hasbro to be lacking this much in the merch department is kinda surprising. I'm really disappointed at the lack of the full Mane 6 in the large plush series =/

WOOO my grad school has been kind to me, coming to Expo 2012 everyone!!
@midga I would say that joining us this year would be a great way to ensure we do it again next year. It's kind of rare to be able to have a Detroit historian and author like this who is willing to lead a small group tour for such a low price. She is a friend, and I've told her all about you guys, so she's really geeked to do it. I hope that the turnout goes well so we can maybe do it again next year and we'll choose a different route, with new points of interest and a whole new history lesson to go with it.
If it comes down to an issue of money, feel free to PM me. I may have some extra bikes that can be used.

It's not really an issue of money, it's because I've never done anything face-to-face with the Icrontians before, much less EPIC, and I'd really like to keep myself as open as possible. It would be easy for me to make the decision an hour before, but there's no way I can say right now whether I'll be up all night the night before, have a hangover because dicks or end up heading off to do something entirely different and spontaneous. Needing an RSVP is entirely reasonable, but I really don't want to get locked down into anything ahead of time for my first year when I barely have an idea what to expect overall in the first place.

There is almost nothing wrong with this idea. I still feel this way after years of going to IC things.
The only reason why there is an RSVP is because I need to put a deposit on the bikes. I understand your position, but I think you're thinking way too much into the event.
I know where @midga's coming from though. I was cautious to do a lot of the 'extra' things my first few expos because I wanted as much time as I could get to meet everyone and just hang out.
Turns out that's ALL I want to do at expo anymore, but I eventually learned that doing those side events are where you solidify some of the strongest friendships.
I am the opposite of what was described here. My first Expo in 2010 was a huge leap of faith for me. I had never met anyone from Icrontic in person and it was a stretch in the budget for me to go but seeing the past events and knowing the Icrontians from both the forums and in game, I wanted to go.
If I was going to step that far out of my comfort zone, I was going to make it worth it. I participated in EVERYTHING I could. I had two events going on at once at a couple points. Running back and forth between Thrax's health conference and The USA World Cup match was crazy fun. I got to know more and more Icrontians the more and more I did. I got something like a total of 7 hours of sleep over 3 nights. It was the most amazing experience in a long time, top 10 lifetime awesome times.
I'm normally a very anti-social person. I'm not a social butterfly at parties. When I would be at a lull at ICHQ I literally had conversations with myself "Just go over to the group of them, you'll get in on the conversation!" "Just ask them if you can get in on next game!" and force myself to be social (not sure if I ever told anyone that before). GQ had setup a scavenger hunt that year revolving around the history of EPIC and it was the best thing for me. I took it as a checklist to learn as much as I could. I had these pep talks with myself "It's on the list, YOU HAVE to ask Canti to draw a picture of you" or when someone yelled out "Who wants to go to X?" "You need a picture of X, you need to go!" End result was because no one had ever met me before, I came off as a very social person. This lead to a hilarious moment when I told Ryder that I'm normally not a social person as he was taking me to the Airport after Expo, his reaction was "WHAT!?"
TL;DR Plan as much as you can because if you don't you will miss out on the experiences. Even if you are hungover, force yourself to participate. Recover after Epic.
Hell, you wanna talk about somebody that just went with it? Just talk about Canti. I called him up out of the blue at the beginning of May in 2008. I'm like yo you know those guys that you only know through TF2? Wanna use all of our vacation days and drive 16 billion hours just to see if this thing they do in Detroit is any cool or not? Yeah sure OK, Click.
We went, it was baller, and now Canti who was a relative outsider to the community at the start has been to more events than I have.
A lot of this desire for me to not rsvp for things is just who I am. I don't like to plan things. Combine that with knowing that at an ic event ANYTHING can happen at ANY TIME I find it hard to want to schedule something unless I know I definitely want to do it.

If you do it again next year I'll probably join in.

Fact: Every single one of them had an awesome time. Many called it the best thing they did all year.

No Regrets.
@djmeph; what happens if the turn out isn't as much as you RSVP'd for?
