10 most important games ever

10 most important games ever

What do you think? Are these really the 10 Most Important Games Ever?

Comments

  1. Linc
Linc No. Myst was responsible for the mass-adoption of CD drives. That pretty much outweighs things like "changing peoples perception of a genre" that they cite for a few of them. This is the list of most important games for gaming milestones, perhaps, not the industry.
  2. primesuspect
primesuspect I can't believe Pac Man didn't make that list. I would count it as one of the most influential and important video games of all time. Surely more than "wipeout" or "Tomb Raider"

I believe Myst should be on that list as well, it brought gaming to "mom". It transcended games and became a cultural phenomenon.

Arguably, you could also include Grand Theft Auto for bringing gaming into the media spotlight, bringing controversy and politics into gaming, and for being responsible, literally, for actual attempts at legislation. Remember, these are "most important" games, not "best".
  3. Kwitko
Kwitko Definitely Pac Man. How many other games had a song, a TV show, a cereal, and countless spin-offs?
  4. Thrax
    Thrax Mario! Zelda! Sonic!
  5. primesuspect
primesuspect I don't think Zelda or Sonic are in the 10 most important games ever. Mario, yes.... But SMB1 was already on that list.
  6. Kwitko
    Kwitko What about Donkey Kong?

No, I was referring to Seth's post about cereals and shows.
  8. GHoosdum
GHoosdum Bunk. There's no way to summarize the importance of gaming with a list of only ten games.

wut?? They all had shows and cereals?
  10. Leonardo
Leonardo Agreed about Pac Man. I couldn't believe it wasn't on the list. Super Mario Brothers, Space Invaders, and Pong though, were major, major milestones that the article writer properly recognized.

But did they have their own pasta?
  14. primesuspect
primesuspect God I used to make my Grandma buy me the Pac Man spaghetti in a can. Oh the heady 80's of my youth.. Where art thou? :(
  15. BuddyJ
BuddyJ Your youth has been regurgitated onto Hanes Beefy-Ts and is now sold at Hot Topic for $19.99
  16. CB
CB Meh. This list doesn't even make it onto my list of 'The Ten Most Important Lists of The Ten Most Important Videogames ever ever'
