CD Projekt RED teases new RPG title

CDProjekt RED new RPGCD Projekt RED, creators of The Witcher franchise, and GOG.com, purveyors of video game history will unveil more details about the new “AAA” RPG they’ve been hiring for. From the supplied image, it’s clearly not going to be anything close to the classic fantasy/magic setting of their previous games. It’s a high-tech setting with a punkish flair.

The press release is vague:

Hey folks… lots of speculation about what CD Projekt RED and GOG.com will talk about tomorrow during their Summer Conference. One thing’s for sure… there will be an announcement about the new AAA RPG in development at the studio.

The Summer Conference announcement will be broadcast tomorrow in a livestream from their Facebook page  at 10am Pacific / 1pm Eastern / 5pm GMT.

The game has been revealed as a take on Mike Pondsmith’s pen-and-paper RPG CyberPunk 2020. CD Projekt RED promises cutting edge graphics, a mature and deep storyline, and the ability to fully customize your character.

  1. midga
midga Shadowrun would get ALL OF MY BUCKETS.
If it's any good, that is.
  2. Guppy
Guppy Shadowrun Returns is in the works right now, so I don't think CD Projekt RED would release a Shadowrun game also. It would be cool though.
  3. Basil
Basil Given what they've said about working on a new IP I can't see it being a Shadowrun game.

Regardless, any decent cyberpunk RPG would really hit the spot for me.
  4. midga
midga @Basil Speaking of, have you tried E.Y.E yet?

Shit! I forgot to go back to that Kickstarter page before it ended >_<
  6. liquience
liquience So very, very excited for this. I hope it's as gritty and messed up as Gibson's or Stephenson's work.
  7. liquience
liquience And yeah, with the Shadowrun kickstarter going on I'd imagine this is something else. Which is fine by me.

Edit: Weird, my name change took effect. Guess I was cookie'd or something.
  8. midga
midga Heh, neat. Vanilla doesn't update names on old posts. Good to know :D
  9. BuddyJ
BuddyJ I'm still hoping it's a Shadowrun title. Shadowrun Returns is all old-school 2050 stuff IIRC. This could tie-in with the 2072 setting from 4th Edition.

Fingers crossed chummers. This one may be worth the creds.
  10. primesuspect
primesuspect ""A rich and decadent world..."
"Based on a cult classic pen-and-paper RPG system"
"Over 4,700 pages in 44 handbooks"
"Over 5 million players. A very advanced, very mature system."
"I'm really honored to announce that we are working on the Cyberpunk game"

Based on Mike Pondsmith's CyberPunk 2020 pen-and-paper RPG game.

  12. Thrax
    Thrax Cyberpunk revival?
  13. BuddyJ
  14. liquience
    liquience Yesssssssssssss.

Edit: OK, I'm Naim again. :| What.
Edit2: Oh, I think it depends on if I visit the article from the main page vs from the discussion system itself. So, http://icrontic.com/article/cd-projekt-red-teases-new-rpg-title vs. http://icrontic.com/discussion/95809/cd-projekt-red-teases-new-rpg-title . Weird.
Edit3: Yeah, that's definitely it. After I edit a post using the /discussion/.. URL the edited post shows "liquience" but when I refresh it goes back to "Naim". Weird ass bug.

    Sorry for the OT nonsense!
  15. midga
midga Good IP from what I remember. Looking forward to seeing how well they pull it off :D
