x264 Benchmark 2.0
The x264 Benchmark 2.0 tool is a nifty script that measures a system’s ability to encode a short 720p video into the x264 format.

Results are reported by the tool for both x264.exe version 0.58.747 and v0.59.819M. The results always seem better using the newer of the two, so that is what we report in our charts below.
The x264 Benchmark is interesting. On the first encoding pass the Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition pulls a good five frame per second lead over the Core i7 920. In turn, it makes up for the deficit on the second encoding pass. In the end, it’s really a wash. They two chips perform equally well when it comes to encoding.
