3DMark Vantage
3DMark Vantage is Futuremark’s latest DX10 benchmark for Windows Vista and Windows 7. This is truly the next generation 3D benchmark.
We used the default ‘Performance’ setting preset, and the usual 1280×1024 resolution. 3DMark Vantage is comprised of numerous tests including full scale gaming, CPU and card feature tests. For the purposes of this review, we’ll be focusing on the CPU tests only.
CPU Test 1 tests how the processor handles AI. It favors multi-core processors that can calculate large amounts of AI logic like movement paths and obstacle avoidance. The Core i7 920 scores big here in the realm of RTS gamers.
CPU Test 2 tests how the CPU handles physics. Flying debris, explosions and the like are big deals in FPS games, and the Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition comes a lot closer to the Core i7 920 in these situations.
