I too was right. Gang of Four was a 70s political punk band from Leeds.

    Wait... Big 3...

Since when did we have reps from GM, Ford & Daimler-Chrysler posting here?

Aaaanyhow... Lada. Yeeeah. You're referring to the Russian (well, somewhere in the former USSR anyhow) company that makes cams out of bakelite? That Lada? Tell ya what, Buddy J... if you can get it to hold together (stock up on duct tape), go ahead and drive it. ;D

    Personally, I like this better:

Well, we're a site run by an international team of folks-- Short-Media itself, that is. I am merely a hanger-on(not staff), but I fold for folding's sake as do many here. There are a FEW who are into it for the points, but they are also aggressive about bringing more machines online for folding-- so more work gets done.

We like to be high in the rankings AND growing, and folks need not be extremely point-sensitive to get more team points. If you want to fold with us, FOLD ON! I happen to have one Barton and one P4 box, online folding, but that is not totally typical IMHO-- the biggest baddest folders here are way ahead of me in the hardware ballpark, but from the more conservative "we just fold" group, WELCOME. Yes, to answer the first question, you are both welcome and encouraged to join. AND to Fold as you and your hardware CAN-- we ALL have lives too, this is just part, though it might not at first or second glance LOOK like it(some of us are here a LOT some days-- poke at self!).

I do it in part for COMPUTER SCIENCE, I do the P4 with aLinux OS and the Barton with a 98SE install running 24\7 that needs rebooting about every 2 WEEKS (Norton SystemWorks 2003 helps a LOT) just to clear out RAM and start over. Curiously, get more folding throughput out of 98SE than I did XP on same box-- might be the extra volume of RAM left free, same base drivers for chipsets on both Windows, and XP had fewer apps loaded.

But the base motivation for all of us is to help provide data to conquer the BIG C and some genetic ailments that express themselves in part with protein malformations that along with other factors result in malformed and malfunctional cells. If you are in the medical science or biochem disciplines, any explanation of the work projects based on the info at Folding@Home and some of the side links to the protein bank would be cool at least for me to read about-- say college Biology or down to AP High School Biology level, summaries of what is being fought as disease that applies to Folding research would encourage more to see why it is so important to Fold in the first place.

    John.

Don't get me wrong. I'm sitting on 16 processors (10 in duallies), all o/c'd Tbred-Bs and Bartons with the slowest running at 2.25. I love the points and the competition, but I keep it in perspective.

Plus, I like to be around people with a sense of humor. Obviously, this isn't the place..........j/k, hope you know that.

you have the duallies overclocked? what mobo?

Geeky, we already have the Lada. I don't think the team can afford a Benz unless we auction off a few hundred more Rollex's. Still,I'm all for it.

I bet I can trick out the Lada with a leatherette interior and gold plated door handles. Find some blinged out rims and we'd have a fine ride almost as nice as that Benz.:vimp:

We love you even more now! :D Get that hardware cranking. Looks like you're going to be one of the heavies. You've already got several members glancing in their rear view mirrors.

Welcome, welcome, welcome. Watchout for the addiction that is coming your way.

Buddy J... put an Orinoco wireless LAN (with wireless high-speed internet) in it like that 'Benz has, and I won't complain (I still won't ride in anything that's got bakelite camshafts tho... :D)

Prolly. It's so big we could pick up most of the people that are coming. We could probably even drive over to get Shorty, but I don't wanna put that many miles on it until I can get the new engine with the turbo...

    :eek2: omg, what a welcome ;D

Great to have you folding with us, tectom! I read the thread title and darted in here to assuage any doubts you had about joining, only to be scared out of my mind by shwaip's a-bit-too-witty response :p

The crew here has a top notch sense of humor, as you can no doubt tell :p Just wait until Shorty and I hijack our next thread... that's always a fun one to watch. :D

Speaking of the Lada, MM, I think my cape is still locked in the trunk maybe? I was gonna get it dry-cleaned but I can't seem to find it.

/me goes to check fuxor's helicopter

Now Buddy J, you know that we always let Shorty drive the Lada. He really enjoys it, and besides, we'd have to move the stack of telephone books off the seat for anyone else to do it.

Oh heck, maybe it's time for a hijack right now... ;D

L5 is for dual operation and L3 is for multiplier correct? You don't have to do bridges for increased default vcore? <- dependent on mobo?

what's the cheapest I can get one of those dual boards and 256 of the registered or ecc ram for? This would help me free up some stuff for donation :D

Welcome from yet another S-M balancing act. (haha) As you can tell we have everything from nuts to nuts here with a few hooligans thrown in for good measure. Damn, now where did we leave Laurel, Hardey, Abbott, Costello, Larry, Curley, Manny Mack and the 2 Moe's? :D
