43 Icrontians have now donated, bringing the total from Icrontians to $15,750. We've spent approximately $63,000 on the house now, and I expect it will have passed $70,000 before Expo. I took out a second unsecured loan that'll get us that far.
Immediate plans included in that:
Siding repair & painting
Basement wall repairs and sealing
Basement window replacement
Gutter installation
Uber cheap backyard "landscaping"
Ongoing electrical improvements
My new guess is that the total cost before I get to the certificate of occupancy (needed to secure a home equity loan at a fraction of the interest level and 1/4 the insurance costs) is going to be another 20K or more on top of that (mostly for the carriage house repairs, which I've prioritized last). Haven't quite figured that part out yet - I've learned it's best not to think that far ahead.
If anyone else is thinking about jumping on the "help the Sullivan House" bandwagon, this would be a great time to do it.
You are doing amazing work. I think all of us wish we could help more than we have so far and maybe we can. Good job on that house, I can't wait to see it again.
- The basement has been going well before & since Expo [new post] - I "found" a bunch of money which is good or we woulda been screwed - I promptly spent it all getting the facade restored & structural repairs / a metal roof on the carriage house - Lots of other smaller projects were done in the last few months - Total repair costs have now passed $110,000 - Major 2014 projects will include the carriage house windows/doors/facade, the house rear & north facade, and replacing interior trim, which will hopefully bring us within sight of the certificate of occupancy
I will be in great need of help outside once it's warm enough to paint in the spring. There's no more dollars for hiring folks to do my dirty work out there. For now, we're winding down for winter: just a couple things to paint and a couple windows to finish fixing and we're putting the to-do list to bed for a month or two.
What are the possible cost savings on homeowners insurance after getting the certificate?
More than $200/mo. And refinancing my current loans as a home equity loan (which means passing a separate but similar bank inspection), even if I took out twice as much, I'd be saving more than $400/mo in fixed costs.
So more than $20/day, possibly closer to $25. It's like eating out for an extra meal every day forever.
The house has a new official rule: no air bazooka at/near Rocky or threatening him with it. He's been hiding in a corner of my room for over an hour now. It turns him into an inconsolable, quivering mess. Legit terrified.

I love riding down poles.
Sorry, @Lincoln, not that kind of pole.
