Speaking as an old fartie who bought Who's Next when it was released in 1971 I personally think this was possibly The Who's best album and Behind Blue Eyes was one of the best songs on it.
I downloaded the Fred Durst version and had a listen. The version I listened to was 4:28 and it seemed to me about half the lyrics were missing.
This is only my opinion, like whatever you want to like, but when Roger Daltrey sang the song he came across as a man, tough, masculine, hard even. He sung it with a passion. And there was also Moonie's drumming to make things good.
Fred Durst, on the other hand, sounds like he's a spoilt frat boy whingeing away and feeling sorry for himself. There is just no feeling in it. Instead of respect, all you wanna give Fred is a whup upside the head and tell him to snap out of it.
Katie Melua - The closest thing to crazy
Duran Duran - Wild Boys
Bonnie Tyler - Total eclipse of the heart
Jamie Culllum - I get a kick out of you. (nice bit of Jazz)
Hmm. The Who's version just sounded so backwards to me...
/me shrugs
Oh well...
Listening to
Smile Empty Soul - Bottom of a Bottle
on my dad's computer right now, regretting every second of it. He's got some crappy little Sony speakers that are > 2" in diameter. These things sound like mud. :shakehead :bawling:

Well, to you, it probably did, I suppose, after all it was made 34 years ago
I guess it's an age thing. But I do like to think, in fact I know, I'm open to new Music. I still get the tingles listening to some new stuff.
I suppose it's about time I grew up, only listen to old stuff, and wallow in nostalgia
But I'm not like that.
Tell you one thing though, I was listening to some old rock stuff from early seventies, in particular Spunk Rock by Welsh band Man recorded live at The Roundhouse, London, 1972, and the guitar work is amazing. I never really noticed it at the time, kinda took it all for granted.
So, that'll do, right now:
Spunk Rock - Man.
Daughter Of The Hillside - Chicken Shack.
Green Day - I Fought The Law (cover, obviously) Stevie Ray Vaughan - cranked it on the way home, can't remember which song, though String Tributes - Evanescence, Dashboard Confessional, Tool
Only problem is, my hearing (and my voice) is messed up from the dance Everything sounds so quiet and like poo lol.
AAAHHHH!! Another Nightwish fan! :D:D I love them ... Tarja Turunen has such an amazing voice. Check out Beto Vazquez, too - a side project of hers.
Blur - Ambulance Joy Division - Komakino Methadones - Hit A Nerve
