Listened to a lot of Audible, Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, and Explosions in the Sky over the weekend Now, though:
Brand New Disaster - The Getaway The Notwist - Neon Golden Led Zeppelin - Bonzo's Montreux
Fatcat-good call. Nectar is a great album. It came out just when I was getting into them. I am about to buy two of their "live Phish" concert CD's...it is just so hard to decide which two.
The new Against Me! demo...which is essentially a stolen copy of songs they recorded for fun...
Against Me! - Miami
Against Me! - Jokes on Us or Holy Sh*t
Against Me! - Ed is Sexy
Against Me! - Problems
Against Me! - Exhaustion or Are you Really Listening?
Against Me! - How Low or Ballad of Tom's Life
Against Me! - Joy or A Joy in All I Can See [version 1]
Against Me! - Joy or A Joy in All I Can See [version 2]
So beautiful...
[edited so you could actually see the title of #2]
Oddly enough, that's what was (randomly) first today. Tool - No Quarter
String Quartet Tribute to Radiohead - Led Down Do Make Say Think - Ontario Plates Midtown - Give It Up
Going to a "Battle of the Bands" tonight. Granted, it'll most likely be highschool-age kids, like myself, but I've heard tale that a few seriously rock. So I'm looking forward to it
Basically it's this guy singing with an acoustic, a little bit of strings in the background (and occasionally soloing), and a tad of light drumming. Amazingly cool album.
Stephen Malkmus - Face The Truth
The guy from Pavement doing solo work. Pretty damn good.
I was talking to the local music geek (think Jack Black in "High Fidelity") at the local music geek record store, asking him about the new Mars Volta album, and he starts bitching about how they're "making" people buy both the CD version and "some online version thing to unlock some secret thing or something. It's, like, total bull**** man..."
I got the impression that he was sort of a luddite anti-tech guy, talking about the internet and "the man" and whatnot... Still, I notice that when I bought the song on iTunes, it is listed as "Digital Version". So, I'm wondering what the difference is.
The Decemberists - Sixteen Military Wives Lady Soverign - Cha Ching Halloween, Alaska - Call it clear
It's an odd mix, I know. The Decemberists song rocks quite hard, Lady Sov is my favorite queen of UK Grime and Halloween, Alaska is my new favorite unknown indie band in the vein of THe Postal Service.
