I can go as high as $50, but I know that would be too high for many...

I will go $50 as well. Maybe we can rent out like a ball room or something like that from a Hotel? I know some have small rooms for meetings and stuff.

I could go as high as fifty, that would be my limit though.
  • edited March 2005
    I would say 35.

All you guys have to do is find a place and figure a price and I'll be there. :D

I'd say that my high limit is around $35 or so.

Do we have anything like a date set yet? Or even a definite 'yes' to SM-LAN 2005 being held? The reason that I ask is MillionManLAN 4 is June 24-27 '05 and registration opens tonight. I am not sure if the lot of us Nexlians will be registering for that or not, but knowing if/when on the SM-LAN will help us decide, since SM-LAN is a higher priority (for me at least).

Well it looks like my classes are going to be July 14th to August 5th... And the next two weekends are weddings so I'd prefer to have it before July 14th...

man, believe me guys, I'm working on it. I'm calling places and everybody so far is okay with "60 people 24 hours for a weekend" but not one of them has internet access.

Hmmmm..... You guys have that Verison Wide Area Wireless network? Chicago does. 10 MB anywhere in Chicagoland. If the Detroit area had that, I'm sure a "Demo" of the product should be arranged. Say, Short-Media do an article on the "new" technology in exchange for days of use.

I REALLY want this LAN to happen. So much has changed since last year and tons of people that I would like to meet (and FRAG in BF2 or BF:DC)....

OK Guys... say prayers every night for Prime to find a "Prime" spot for us!!!!

HAhahaha, Detroit having WiFi.. bahahahaahahha ;D

Tony knows something about a few cities around Detroit getting it, and I also hear Farmington is getting it as well.

That Compuware/ Hard Rock Cafe on Monroe has the first WiFi node in Detroit and it reaches into the lobby of the Compuware building. Access to the network is free, too! Check NodeDB for a map. And check www.dwp.org for the Detroit Wireless Project. There's also a forum to check out.

I promise you that compuware was not the first wifi node in detroit. We had a wifi node at a company I used to work at in 2000 on Beaubien (by the greektown casino)

Oh. I went to a website and it said that the Compuware was the first but I guess that they weren't being very honest than were they?

i'm not entirely interested in wifi, since most desktop (gaming) PCs don't have wireless cards. Plus wifi really sucks for lag. Wifi for internet is acceptable since we can provide our own AP, but still... I'd rather have a place that offers internet access to 30+ computers.

Only type of place I can think of with that would be a hotel. :-/

I intend to be there (whenever, wherever, and however it happens) but I feel the same way. Driving nearly 400 miles roundtrip & paying the Lan costs is doable, but adding a $40 wireless NIC for what would likely be a one-time use would be stretching it.

I'd rather spend the extra dough on Mountain Dew & Cheetos, the official food of the nerds. :vimp:

Thanks, but I'm not interested in having it on the west side of michigan. If we were going to do that, we would just move a few more miles west and have it in Chicago, based around a few other short-media oldtimers :)
  • edited April 2005
All we need is one WAP to connected to the network, and route all net-bound traffic through that. This way we'd be on our own network, still have internet access, and the majority of us wont need to buy wireless cards.

Yeah I hear you prime... I talked with you QCH yesterday and "Depends" is now sponsoring his BF1942 LAN team... Originally he tried to land a colostomy bag manufacturer until he realized they were just selling him a line of $h*t about the sponsorship. ;D

Also have you decided on a drop dead date as to whether we'll be able to have it in Detroit?

    Thanks...

Who this Comic dude? Should we Ban him... oh yeah, that's that Dead Head that I brought along to help fend off Detroit thugs. ;D

A cut off date would be nice. I have every intention of going to the LAN but if I could tell my wife that on X date, I will know if the LAN is on or I will know the LAN details.

BTW... Depends RULE ( Part of the contract, I must Defend Depends and encourage everyone else to use them... come on, never have to leave your chair while gaming!!! Just keep enough beverages on hand... Depends can hold quite a lot of stuff... hours upon hours without a break.) ;D
