I'm moving this thread into Digital Media, so that it shows up on hot threads, and I'm also sticking it.

I'm in with sonic foundry, guitar, vocals, pots and pans, whatever we need. Prime, if you can hit me with the FTP info, I will get some stuff laid down tonight. Working with a Digitech Rp200 so easy interface to PC. I really think this thing will be ultra cool.

Well, how is the project going? Do you have a basic track yet?

My daughter plays percussion, and has access to all of the 'odd' stuff. If you want some tympani, marimba, chimes or such let me know.

ok I got my track and burned it to cd, all 60 seconds of it :D. Can I copy and paste the track from cakewalk project and/or the cd.

What's the best way to get the music in the folder I created on the Ftp?

Try to imagine utter silence. Deafening silence.

.wav anyone who uploads .mp3 will be summarily executed, beaten, and scolded at the same time.

MP3 files are smashed, broken, and compressed. Don't use MP3!!!!! We need raw .WAV files!!!

Sorry, been battling multiple issues since I got home. Sad to say, I got more done on the road writing lyrics than since got home. Have hardly even got started figuring out the new recording studio. Been sick as hell. Work is insane busy - I collect accounts for an agricultural lender in Alberta, beef capital of Canada - guess how much cash flow there is here right now? There aren't enough hours in the day or days in the week for all the people I am working with right now. ugh.

I picked a *beauty* time to quit smoking, no? :chewsoffownhandsmiley:

I guess the first post belongs to me. Just two rough guitar tracks, one heavy, one not so much. They are relatively unpolished but whoever is mixing them can cut the noise out or what not. They are certianly not the final takes but it is just a direction if anybody is interested. :Rocker:

Excellent, I'm going to my space tonight for band practice and after will lay drums over those. They will be crude as well with using one mic only to record but it will allow us to start improving and refining. I should most definitely have drum tracks posted tomorrow.

BTW - Volcano reminds me of Pantera. Great work Justin getting that riffage recorded and posted. :Rocker:

Volcano is in dropped "D" and Hall Way is in Standard Tuning. I built the guitar myself so the general intonation has a funky sound/ harmonic setup to it but, for those of you TAB heads, Volcano is 0-2-3, 0-2-3, 0-2-3, 0-2s-6, I think the palm muting is rather self explanitory, the chorus is power chords on the fifth string 5-6-8-3-8-6-5 and then chugging away on the "D" string. That one is painfully simple. Hallway has taken on many versoins over the years but never really turned into anything other than what you heard. I need to get some new strings and I will repost that one along with a few others but I want to try to get the recording steup into a little better shape. I dont know where the interference is coming from but it is rather annoying. I am going straight into my PC from the pedal and I am using Windows sound recorder since I am too ignorant to get cakewalk to work for anything but the tuner. I plan to drop a few of those new and old ideas into ACID and spit out a .wav that will be more than just a guitar track. Thanks for the feed back!!!! I guess this thing can really happen!!!

Sorry all, lastnight at the depot was cut short and I had to leave before band practice was even supposed to end so I wasn't able to lay anything down. I'll be gone this weekend and won't get back to my rehearsal space until next Wednesday, so if not then, I'll get something recorded for Saturday guaranteed. :(

ok men in the band Scuff's stuff should now be posted. All 60 seconds of it;D, also it is in the key of E, that's E-A-B chords, minor pentatonic scales should work well over(guitar)/under(Bass) this.

We are well on our way, folks. -tk and I started goofing around last night and we've got some stuff that should be ready by the time I figure out how to use my delta 410.

ALright, Got some new stuff posted to the site. I can only assume the site is being hosted somewhere (Is It?) I think I know someone that could do the code to make it accessable to the public. Maybe we can get some distribution going once we get a few things pulled together and polished...

I know a few people who could make it available to the public too ;)

What's not public about it? You just need to PM me for the UN and PW.

Do you mean make a website for it?
  • JustinJustin Atlanta
    edited March 2004
Yeah, make a web site. I know that right now it would not be that great but as we get more tracks up there, I am pulling them down and playing around with them and I think we could have some finished products soon if we can get some more stuff posted. All it would take is word of mouth and we could really be off and moving. Has anybody heard from Roby in a while? THis whole thing was his idea was it not? In any case, let's keep it comin' and once we make diamonds out of these rocks ( did you like how I used ROCK there... :rolleyes2 :rolleyes2 ) I think it will just take the right set of ears to hear it and maybe this can really turn into something besides the coolest idea for a colaboration since Anthrax and Public Enemy. Turn it up....Bring The Noise!!!!! :Rocker:

I'm sure somebody that's involved with the project will come up with a site, but I imagine we'll be waiting for a complete song or two before we come up with a website and offer public downloads.

    Great stuff guys. :)

hey guys... just got told about this by the great Robby.

    Background on me:
i play drums and have been for the last 7 years... mainly punk (old style) and classic/metal rock... i also picked up a bit of jazz from my drum teacher. im also in the high school band and could hopefully borrow some cool equip. from the teacher (real cool guy that is popular in the D&B world) stuff like tambales, castanets, congas, all sorts of shakers and maracas.

i have a good sized mixer and a few mics that i could use.. i just dont have anything to record onto to upload for yas guys... so for now ill just be fooling around with drum parts on songs you guys have made.

we gotta figure out a way to get decent recording equipment into the hands of people who want to participate.

I think that the thing I went with - the $99 Delta 410 is a good start. I'm gonna evaluate it and let everybody know how it goes.

At this point, even a simple tape recoprder in the middle of a room would be good. Then you can line that into windows Sound recorder as mentioned earlier in the thread. Sony' SOnic Foundry Sound Forge is the program I have started using and it works quite well. The 410 ( although I have never tried it) sounds like it should be a good Unit, can't wait to hear Prime's stuff. www.musiciansfriend.com should have everything anybody would need. All I use right now is Sound Forge for recording, ACID Pro 4.0 for mixing, and Digitech RP100 for effects/output, and this guitar I built a few years ago from an old G&L Neck and an accoustic pickup attached to the body I shaped out of particle board with duct-tape. Ghetto as it sounds, it can still produce. Sounds like elementb has the right idea for a setup for drum recording, for guitar, just a simple pedal should not run the risk of frying your board, mics for vocals obviously, and that should do it. I am thinking about putting some dance beats up here, any interest or should we just try to keep this organic?
