3DMark Vantage
3DMark Vantage is Futuremark’s latest DX10 benchmark exclusively for Windows Vista. This is truly the next generation 3D benchmark.
We used the default ‘Performance’ setting preset, and the usual 1280×1024 resolution. 3DMark Vantage is comprised of numerous tests including full scale gaming, CPU and card feature tests. For the purposes of this review, we’ll be focusing on the CPU tests only.
As you can see, the Phenom II processors had little difficulty outperforming the 2.4GHz Q6600, but couldn’t compete clock for clock against it. We also see the Phenom II outperform the first generation Phenom by a small but visible margin when compared at the same clock speed.
The Phenom II processors fair a bit better in the second CPU test. The two Phenom II processors compare very closely to a similarly clocked Core 2 Quad, and outperform the 2.4GHz Q6600 with ease. There appears to be very little improvement when comparing similarly clocked first and second generation Phenom processors in this benchmark.
3DMark 2006
Futuremark’s 3DMark 2006 is arguably the most popular 3D benchmark of all time. We benchmarked it using the default settings, as that is the most widely recognized by enthusiasts.
Because CPU and memory performance can directly impact the overall score in 3DMark 2006, we’ll be reporting on the overall score as well as the CPU score.
We see a very similar trend yet again with the Phenom II outperforming the Core 2 Quad Q6600 but not quite able to compare at 3GHz.
